SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN RIO DE JANEIRO BRAZIL:
The Sugar loaf Mountain complex includes two hills or morros as the carioca’s call them.
The shortest hill is named Morro da Urca, and it’s the first stop of the cable cars. Morro da Urca is 224 meters tall. This is where you find the restaurant, and the amphitheater.
The Sugarloaf Mountain itself is 395 meters tall and is the final stop of the telesferical ride.

The Sugar Loaf Mountain complex, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, also offers the posibility of doing some trekking. There are two official trekking lanes open -at the top and at the base of the hills.
At the base of Morro da Urca, or Urca hill, you will find a very enjoyable trekking path called “Pista Cláudio Coutinho”, or Claudio Coutinho’s Lane. It’s a lane that goes along the base of the Urca Mountain. As you go along you will be able to appreciate some small monkeys and typicall Brazilian flora.
About one million people visit the Sugar loaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro, every year. You reach it by Av. Pasteur, it’s just 10 minute away from Copacabana, and a half hour ride from the rest of the southern neighobourhoods of Rio de Janeiro: Botafogo, Flamengo, Leblon and Ipanema.
SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN URCA NEIGHBOURHOOD RIO DE JANEIRO BRAZIL:
The Sugar Loaf mountain is located at Urca neighbourhood, one of Rio’s most pintoresc neighborhoods. With six squares and only 16 streets, it is home to one of Rio’s most famous postcards, the Sugarloaf (Pão de Açúcar).
In this neighoburhood there are some fine attractions like the art-deco houses from the early 20th century and the old Casino on the beach, all of these surrounded by the beautyfull Guanabara Bay. A few artists live here, including singer Roberto Carlos (known as the King in Brazil, like Elvis in the U.S.).
In Urca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, we also find three beaches of Rio de Janeiro, these are: Praia Vermelha at the base of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, an ideal stop after the cable car tour, Praia de Fora and Praia da Urca.
Urca has an important historical role, this is where Estácio de Sá founded Rio de Janeiro in 1565. The oldest construction still standing is the São João Fortress, dating of 1618. It was renovated in 1872, in order to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Brazil’s independence. It’s 15 cannons were installed for the ocation.
